I am in the process getting ready to offer a local study group type course on this very subject.
How am I getting ready, you might ask? I am studying.
I may be the only one to attend, but I'm betting there are enough people in the Anniston/Oxford area, or close enough to travel, to attend a weekly class on the founding of America with close attention to the founding principles. If you are one of them, I think you probably know it in your heart and mind and would be eager to participate.
I envision the class being held somewhere in Oxford or Anniston, Alabama one night a week, probably on a Tuesday or Thursday evening, place, date, and time, still in the future.
There will be a charge. The course is not free.
There are two books involved:
1. The 5000 Year Leap
2. The Making of America: The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution

But then I ran into a snag. Sort of. I got hit by a big "uh oh" about 2:30 this morning.
I think my Halloween Costume pages on GetCalhoun.com are pretty nifty, and they get a lot of hits, but, since Halloween is running neck and neck with Christmas, I thought I could go one better.
So, I have been working on what I thought was a major page revision to modernize and update the appearance of said pages.
What occurred to me way too early this morning was that the revision might overwhelm GetCalhoun.com in ways that might or might not enhance the whole durned website.
As of this writing there are about 15 or so pages devoted to Halloween Costumes on GC. The revision would take it to more like 600+. Pretty big change, wouldn't you agree?
So, I decided to just chicken out and leave my already popular Halloween Costume pages on GC intact and instead, put the new effort on a new standalone website. Boohoo on that, because GetCalhoun.com is so POWERFUL about getting pages indexed. But no matter. It might take a little longer, but I'll put it over......

Selling Halloween Costumes is a challenge in that the market is already saturated...but of course can always use more and better. Secondly, it's a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) nightmare. BooKoo competition.

I have access to tons and boatloads of coupons for just about everything you can imagine. The coupons are changed out all the time. But that is not why I write.
Sadly, my video went poof. Yes, Coupons and Coupon Codes on GetCalhoun.com was billed as the most unique coupon code place in the entire world because of my live deer cam featuring a live shot from somewhere in Arkansas 24 hours a day. How many coupon pages have a live deer cam on it? Why would they even want one?
Well, the video was purloined from ESPN. I and a few other sites grabbed their video feed to use on our own sites. I really thought I was unique until the feed went black and I started looking around.

Alas, ESPN decided one fine day recently to get out of the outdoors business and back strictly to the team sport business. It's maddening! I LOVED that deer cam. But, we have to learn to let go of the things we love from time to time.

Survival Information is one of my websites that I have worked hard for search engine optimization to get a better result on Google. It looks like the work is paying off.Last evening, I noticed that it had moved up to position #7 from position #9 on the first page of Google for the phrase, "survival information."
This is a remarkable thing for a number of technical reasons that I won't mention. But I will say that it is on page one of a search phrase that gives About 146,000,000 results. Getting on page one of Google with competition like this is in the very upper strata of getting a website found. I do these things on a regular and predictable basis.
Please don't look on this as bragging. I mean, it is bragging, but you don't have to look at it that way. Heh heh.
What I do for myself, I can do for you...or even teach you to do for yourself. If you have ANY aspirations to be one of those people who sit around the kitchen table all day long making money from the Internet, you MUST visit my Internet Marketing Training pages and TAKE ACTION.

Seems like in my youth puffy white clouds would turn into pleasant showers and even thunderstorms off and on all summer long. Nowadays, about the only time we get good rain from Spring until Winter is when a rowdy violent squall line roars through our fair towns.
It's pretty clear now to a lot more people that simply going to the lowest floor of the house, which is most often the hall closet or interior bathtub isn't going to cut it any longer.
Even better, if you're at work, what are you going to do? Leave? And go where?
It is time in Calhoun County, Alabama that the people in charge spend some of our tax dollars to give more people more options, and that means constructing underground storm shelters where they will do the most good.
I say that this could be accomplished, from start to finish by next spring...if there were a will to do it.
In the meantime, safer locations could be identified and plans put into place to assure that they would be available to the public in times of storms. I can think of two places this very minute. One in downtown Oxford AL, and one in downtown Anniston AL that were locked when the Tuscaloosa tornado came within 20 miles of ruining our collective lives here.
I say that there is no reason for folks who want to survive to not be able to survive. If there was ever a wake up call, this season of twisters was surely it. Shelter in place is not viable when the air hits you at 200+ miles per hour.
The challenge here is that someone must step up and lead the movement to provide livable shelter for folks who want to use it when a storm is coming. It won't get done by itself, and if I'm any judge of local politics, it won't get done easily.
If it comes down to ball parks or bomb shelters, I choose the latter. We can live to play ball another day. (Of course with all this Obama money floating around, we should be able to have both.)

Awhile back I started another website called, " Survival Information ".... Well, things got hectic and I dropped it for awhile and wandered off to a new site, then another new one, etc.
Well, my last website, " ChicGirl " which is about chic girl stuff was starting to get on my manly nerves, so I set that aside so that I could recuperate with good old SurvivalInformation.net.
Well...that and the reason that I noticed that the half finished site had managed to move to the front page of Google for the search term " survival information " . This was what I was working for, but I didn't expect it to go to page on half finished! It did. ALL the other sites on there are much older and hold more "authority" with Google for one reason and another. So, I am doubly tickled!!

I have lived here all of my life and I don't know of one. This is a fairly strange thing, considering that nearby Jacksonville, AL serves as the hub of the local Emergency Management Agency.
It is a fact that everything changed after the Palm Sunday Tornado of 1994. I was there. Well, I wasn't at Goshen, thank God, but I was at the center of the information tornado, as I was in the control room of the local television station.
I had been looking at a lone little red blob of color that had been moving steadily northeast all morning on radar. I had a really bad feeling that morning. No reason really. There wasn't a single clue that the little red blob would decide to drop a tornado and kill a bunch of people above Piedmont. But something just didn't feel right.
When it happened, all hell broke loose. You see, it was such an oddball event that nobody who was supposed to be prepared...was prepared. In and out, down and up. Many dead.
After that, everything changed. That's when warning sirens popped up everywhere. Spann ascended at ABC3340, changing how weather was reported across all television stations in Alabama. The weather service turned their weather sensitivity knobs up so high that forevermore, they were seeing tornadoes in innocuous summer showers. You know how it is.
The one thing that didn't change was just what to do when a tornado sets its sights on you. You see, and will agree that it does absolutely no good to have a full day of warning if you have nowhere to go when a twister descends on you.
When even an EF1 tornado or strong straight line winds can and will kill you very dead, you have very little chance of survival when an F4 tears through where you are. The difference between an F4 and an F5 tornado is that an F4 leaves piles of rubble where homes were. An F5 leaves nothing...just a shadow or an empty cement pad.
The only way to successfully survive an F4 or and F5 tornado is to be several feet underneath the ground. Funny that. If you don't get underground when a large tornado hits, you will get underground after. One way, you will continue to breathe and enjoy life, and the other way you will not.
The problem for most of us is that "shelter in place" is not a good option during a tornado. The Cullman tornado demolished even strong, old, brick buildings.
We, or at least I, have always expected our city leaders, who are paid to do such things, to come up with places that we can go shelter when the weather turns bad. Then, the bad weather moves on along and the sun comes out, and nothing is ever done.
I believe there should be more options than "shelter and die in place."
I believe that if the people we pay to come up with alternate plans (as in whether we live or die) won't take care of business, then we, the Anniston and Oxford "street" should take care of it ourselves.
But first, we should finally, and once and for all ask the people who are in charge of public safety to step up to the challenge to identify and make available places for us to go when we know we're going to die if we don't.
I can personally think of two places that offer the chance for life that were padlocked on that recent and historical tornado day.
I'm not asking for the gubment to guarantee survival and sunny days. That is foolish. But what they could do is to put together a list of places that are survivable during a tornado and see to it that these places are made available...as in neighbor helping neighbor. A cooperation. A plan.
Identifying existing sites that can be used for storm shelters, making sure that they are open, and getting the plan in front of the citizens will cost little or nothing to implement, other than a little time.
The whole thing could be done by volunteers for that matter, if officially empowered.
I say, "Let's get to work."
Calhoun County Alabama Local NewsThere is no immediate local news in Calhoun County Alabama, and has not been since WJSU became part of the greater ABC 33-40 co-prosperity sphere in 1996.
I don't mean any slight to our local news reporting sources in radio and cable TV, but what they are able deliver is not the same as having a home owned full time home owned news oriented tv or radio station.
The closest thing to real news is and always has been the Anniston Star. Though they have veered into video, it's still not as dynamic as real time reports from a dedicated source.
GetCalhoun.com had daily weekday news for a few years when we maintained a business relationship with Alabama 810, and nobody was more tickled than me. Our news archives from that period are still VERY popular. Still, nothing immediate about that.
Worse, most of our local AM radio stations either go to low power, or close down when the sun goes down. And while FM stations do have news reportage, that isn't their first mission.
I always had a dream that one day GetCalhoun.com could get into the local news business. The fact is that a forward thinking local website could do a passable job of immediate news with an exceedingly low overhead for the service.
Alas, there is only me. As much as I would like to be a news reporter, which I have been off and on all my life, I had to make a decision. Time away gathering news is time lost here on production work.
GetCalhoun.com up to the minute news would need two things to become a reality. That being, a reporter, and revenue. Everything else is already on hand or could be procured cheaply.
Local news has always been about revenue. The business community has to be willing to support the news provider. Online news can be done FAR more cheaply than in a regular brick and mortar business. But it does take funds.
I believe there are enough people in Calhoun County Alabama who yearn for news, particularly during times of peril, that GetCalhoun.com up to the minute news could become a reality. While not perfect, because of the relatively low costs, it is something that could be done for not much more than a livable salary for the reporters. There are people who are drawn to news that would be ecstatic to do a GREAT job, if they only had the chance, and be perfectly willing to be paid in peanuts for the opportunity.
I'd love to hear your opinion about this, especially if you have money, resources, or the ability to generate revenue. The operational end is already in place.
It has been both heartening and heartbreaking.
First, I have yet to run into an ungracious business owner. 99.9% have been very generous, at least, in their conversations with me. One fellow said, "no" and that sort of ended the chat, but every other business I have spoken with has been first rate. This was very nice, because as you know I am very shy.But secondly. Many business owners I spoke to were frank about their immediate prospects.
Beyond precluding a chance for me to make a sale, the general sorry state of the economy here is disheartening. And I'm talking about some very old and very well known businesses too.
I have always felt that the time to advertise is when you don't have to. In other words, when the cash register is flush. The next best time is when you see the time coming when you can't.
By the time you are so far in the hole that you can't afford any advertising, even mine, which is ridiculously low cost compared to what others charge for similar services, then you're in a jam for sure.
I know and can show that a page with GetCalhoun.com, or a full website, for that matter has value and worth. But some local business are beyond that now. With some, when you call, all you get is a fast busy signal. That means nobody is ever going to be there again.
I feel like we're standing, looking over edge of a cliff with a gentle but firm push from behind. Something has got to give.
In the meantime, if there are yet customers with money for what your business offers, and they look for you on the Internet, they WILL find you on GetCalhoun.com...if you are able to advertise.

The Anniston Business Directory page project is complete for phase one. Finally! This has been one of the most ambitious projects yet for GetCalhoun.com.
I took a little detour to craft the great many pages that make up my Internet Marketing Training project, and then came back and completed the Anniston Business Directory.
When you visit the ABD, you will see a whole bunch of pre-built business pages. Heck, I don't know of any website anywhere that goes ahead and builds pages before they are sold. I did, and the reason was to have something to show you, the customer, when I call on you.
If you run a search for most any of the pages, you will find them near the top of Google on page one. (The last pages will need a week or two to catch up from this writing.)
The strategy here is a little different than is usually used. The pages were built to be top performers for the most used search words for a given biz.
See, most folks build with the name of their business in mind. I build for the most commonly searched keywords.
So, for example, if you were to go to Google and type in "air conditioner repair anniston", near the top of the page you would find my Anniston Air Conditioner Repair page.
If your business just happens to be air conditioner repair, you could step right into a mini website at the top of the search page....beating out ALL of your competition.
Even better, the search also works for surrounding towns and counties....all that are listed on the page.
What happens when someone purchases a page is that their details are added to the page...like a personalized logo, company name, and whatever other info they think important. And the page is fine tuned, adding and removing info as necessary.
Nobody else is doing this. Nobody. Nowhere. Nohow.
If a potential client doesn't find a page to fit in the list, I'll build one for him. The proof that the new page will work is demonstrated by how well all the existing pages are doing.
Even better....it's more than a page. It is a mini-website, as there are interconnected pages that go along with the main page, as you can see at the bottom of each page. It makes for a super strong target for search engines.
I could go on for pages here, but maybe you are starting to get the idea. The proof of success is in Google.
As for the Anniston Business Directory page itself....go type that into Google and see what happens. It's #2, and I'm working on that!!! That's higher than even the Chamber's site. Way higher.
The next project I'll be working on is to make a couple of videos explaining all of this stuff to go on the ABD page. Then it's on to sell those page to some future happy clients!!!

Well, I did it again. A client with one of my websites stopped by and we spent about three hours having the best time talking about every aspect of Internet Marketing.
